This new scam is over the telephone.  The person on the other end of the line tells you that they need to verify your home address and your social security number.

You’re thinking, that’s crazy, why would anyone do that?

Well, here’s why:
They call you at work and tell you that your social security number has been stolen and someone has used it to open fraudulent accounts.  In order to stop them you have to verify some information.

They already have your work address and phone number but the home address is wrong and they need you to verify your social security number.  It sounds legit.

A few things to remember when it comes to phone calls:
1:  Never give out personal information.
2:  No legitimate company will ask you to verify your entire social security number!
3:  Register on the Do Not Call list by either going to DoNotCall.gov or calling (888) 382-1222.
