As if the breach wasn’t bad enough, hackers have started a new phishing scam.
Having sensed our hesitance to do anything online, they have taken to the phones. They call trying to pass themselves off as an Equifax officer or one of their competitors, TransUnion or Experian.
Tips to help if you get a call like this:
1: Do NOT give your information to them!
2: Don’t trust caller ID, even if it says ‘EquiFax’.
3: Hang up!
4: Report this call to the FTC at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov
What to do if you have given your information out:
1: Change all of your passwords and security questions immediately
2: Contact your bank and change accounts.
3: Get new cards issued
