The Equifax data breach was front page news while the Yahoo data breach didn’t get as much attention. Why is that? And what exactly is a data breach?
A data breach is a hacker logging into a secure system and stealing information. In the case of Equifax this included social security numbers, date of births, credit cards and any other information that they could.
With Yahoo it included customers’ names, email address and passwords, but no financial information. This was a larger data breach in size, affecting nearly a billion people as opposed to Equifax which affected 245.5 million.
