Scammers are setting up Facebook accounts to look just like anyone they want. They can grab pictures off of any profile they want and be whoever they want!
After they have set up the account they send messages to people on your friend list asking for money to be sent through an online account.
The simplicity of this scam is what people fall for. It’s doesn’t throw up red flags because it’s a friend or a family member (you think) asking you to help them out. Most of us would help without thinking twice!
What to do?
Facebook is aware of the problem but hasn’t come up with a solution as of yet. Double check that the person asking for help is who they say they are. Pick up the phone and call them or text them.
Don’t try to call Facebook either! Most of the phone numbers you find online for Facebook are scams as well!
