Bad news seems to surround Facebook, lately! We recently blogged about the leaks with Data Analytica and your account information.
Now it seems that you don’t even have to be ON Facebook to have a ‘shadow’ account with them!
What does this mean?
A ‘shadow’ account collects information about where go online.
Have you ever noticed a Facebook logo on a random article or website? This logo can tell Facebook that you were on that page! Facebook says this is to prevent others from ‘scraping’ their data information but it seems that they use it for targeted ads.
What can you do?
If you don’t have a Facebook account, the Digital Advertising Alliance has created a website that shows you who is using the ads and gives you the option to opt out.
