Microsoft had planned to stop support for Skype Classic on September 1st but delayed the launch due to complaints by consumers. They have since revealed that they will be stopping all support for Skype Versions 7 and below on November 1st.
If you use any of those versions of Skype you have the option to update to version 8. Microsoft is sending emails to the users that are using an older version of Skype to let them know of the deadlines.
As of November 1st all of the desktop versions of Skype 7 or lower will stop being supporter.
On the 15th of November those that use tablets and phones will have to be updated to 8.
