While the CryptoMix scam has been around for about a year, hackers have made it seem like they are helping children by encrypting your data and asking for a ransom!
The first note is a standard CryptoMix scam:
When you answer the email you get the following email that says your money is going to help children:
Then after you pay they send you the email below:
CryptoMix can get onto your computer a few different ways.
It could have been attached to some free software or you may have gotten it through an email attachment.
A lot of the time it’s silent and you didn’t give it permission.
What can you do?
Don’t open links in emails that look suspicious.
Double check the free software you download.
Always back up your data!
