It happens to all of us. Your friend has sent you an email with an unexpected word document.
What do you do? Do you open it?
Hopefully, you answered no. You don’t open the attachment.
Double check who it’s coming from by hovering over the from name. If it says your friends email, contact them and make sure that they sent it.
If they did, then I would say you are safe to open it. If not, don’t open it.
Here’s why:
Hackers have put a malicious virus into the word document using macros.
In order for it to run though, you have to open the document and allow the macros to run in Office.
Don’t allow macros to run in Microsoft Office ever! This will keep you safe from this kind of virus.
