Dharma is being bundled with a version of ESET, a legitimate antivirus, in the hopes that you won’t look too closely at it.
The email:
After you hit download you get this screen:
They have helpfully added an antivirus removal tool for you to remove those pesky anti-viruses that you have.
After it finishes encrypting your data this note will appear:
What can you do to prevent this?
Know who an attachment is from.
Don’t open any attachments that look suspicious.
If a download says it needs to remove the antivirus, don’t do it!
Always backup your data.
After encryption:
Don’t pay, there’s no guarantee that you are going to ever get your data back.
Turn off your computer and bring it in to see what data can be recovered.
