This time the breach wasn’t from outside but from within Facebook itself!  They uploaded 1.5 million users email contact list without asking for permission or even telling anyone that they were doing it!

Facebook is claiming that it was an “accidental” data harvest.

How did this happen?

When creating a new account, users were asked to verify their email and use the password for their email to finish the verification process.

With this information, Facebook downloaded entire lists of email contacts, email addresses and anything else you had in the contacts of your email.

What is this information being used for?

Facebook claim that it fed this data into their own systems for friend recommendations and more targeted ads.

Facebook has since disabled this verification but the damage has been done already.
